Stableford 3 Sixes
Tournament Results
Luckily Hurricane Earl moved out quickly, but he
left us some breezy conditions to challenge us all day. Bright
sunshine and receptive greens from last night's rain helped
produce some low scores. Competition was very tight in some of the flights
with quite a few ties. All Ties were resolved in each of
the six-hole groups by looking at the
last 3 holes, and if still tied, the last 2 holes were used, and
if still tied, the last hole of that six-hole group was
used. First and Second Places were awarded
in each Six-Hole Group in Each Flight.

Scoring Discrepancy
Resolved
We apologize for the late
posting of the tournament results for this week, while we resolved the
scoring problems. Ultimately it was resolved
without affecting the final outcome.
Members are
strongly reminded that the Hole-By-Hole Scores on your official
scorecards MUST BE LEGIBLE! The hole-by-hole
scores are the most important thing on your card. They must be
correct and legible. If you need to change the score for a
hole, erase the old score and rewrite it or cross it out
completely and write the new score next to it. It must be
obvious to the committee what score was for each hole.
Writing one number over another can create confusion for the
committee, and should be avoided at all cost. |

4 Man Stableford ABCD
Results for August 28th
There is only one way to
describe the weather for this week's 4-Man ABCD Stableford
Tournament ... Perfect. Clear skies, Low 80's, light wind and
brilliant sunshine blessed us all day long for a fantastic day
out on the course.
It's obvious that Team Daponte
liked the weather as they set a new record in the 4-man event
with a blistering 117 points, crushing the rest of the field by
19 points. Everyone on the winning team shot Net Par or
better on the day to contribute to the victory. Well Done!

Low Net
Results for August 21st
While the Cup Finalists
were busy slugging it out for the title, the rest of us were
competing for Low Net in 3 Flights. Excellent weather conditions
didn't seem to help us much as scores were much higher than
usual with only one round below Net Par.
Please note that the places in the
Low Net Tournament are different from the Founders Cup because
the President's Cup & Club Championship Finalists did not
participate in the Low Net Tournament this week, but they are
eligible for Founders Cup points.

After a thorough search,
Jeff DiMarco finds his tee shot decorating one of the spruce
trees along the 10th fairway. We were disappointed that he
decided to take an unplayable lie, we really wanted to see the
video of his next shot - To see a larger

Memorial Tournament
Results for July 31st
The Final Round
of the 2010 Memorial Match Play
Tournament was contested today, yielding the following
Results. Congratulations to the Winners!
It was a fitting tribute that on the
Final Round of the 2010 Memorial Tournament, a bronze plaque
honoring Larry Springer was installed next to the 100 yard
marker in the 11th fairway. As one of our club founders, Larry
always loved competing in the Memorial Tournament every year,
and his wit is sorely missed by all who knew him. As some
of you know, Larry lived on the 11th hole for many years and
would take his sons out to the 100 yard marker to let them hit
shots into the green. He had many fond memories out there
spending time with his family.
To recognize Larry's years of
dedication, the Men's Club donated the marker to be placed there
in his honor. We'd like to express our thanks to Jimmi Conway
and the Grounds Keepers for doing a wonderful job in installing
the marker. Next time you go by, stop for a moment and say
Hi before you pitch your next shot onto the green.

Red vs. Blue
Tournament Results for July 31st
It was a tremendous day for the Red Vs. Blue Tournament and the
Final
Round of the Memorial Tournament. Bright sunshine, a light
breeze and excellent greens made for a wonderful day to be out
on the course.
The Red Team jumped out to an early
lead and kept building upon it throughout the day as they
crushed the Blue Team 30-1/2 to 23-1/2 points. Four 3-Point
Shutouts by the Red Team and a bunch of 2-1/2 point victories
contributed to the solid win for the Reds.
We had the opportunity to test out
the new tee box on the 10th hole over the water, and the general
consensus seems to be that it's a great addition to the course,
adding a little thrill as we start the back nine.
Ken Magliano shot an amazing round
of 88 for Net 61 with 7 pars and a birdie. The committee
requested a urine sample to check out just how many steroids it
takes to shoot a Net 61, but we're waiting on the lab results.
Nice round Ken!

3 Sixes
Tournament Results for July 24th
Survivors of our 3 Sixes Tournament are to be
congratulated for persevering through the heat and humidity,
with the heat index topping 102 degrees. Whoooooo-we, it
was hot out there. Soft greens held the approach shots
very nicely, and I suspect that a few of us considered hitting a
ball into the water just so we could take a quick dip. It would
have been worth the penalty!
Competition was very tight in some of the flights
with a few tie-breakers for position. All Ties were resolved in each of
the six-hole groups by looking at the
last 3 holes, and if still tied, the last 2 holes, then the last hole.
First and Second Places were awarded in each
Six-Hole Group in Each Flight.

Member-Member Tournament Results for
July 18th
Unlike last week we had a bright sunny day with Hot Temps, and some
Hot Golfers setting new records in both divisions for the Member-Member Tournament.
Solid rounds by Rotundo & Smith
propelled them to a 6 stroke victory with a 145 in the Gross
Division, while Fosdick & Buhmann posted another low number to
shoot 123 in the Net Division. Congratulations
to all the winners!
The lowest 3 GROSS scores placed in
the GROSS division, and all others competed for Low NET
division. Ties for positions in the Net division were
settled by looking at the better low net score for the 18 holes on July
17th, then looking at the back nine holes, then the last six
holes.

Member-Member First Round Tournament Results for
July 10th
Periods of rain off & on and high humidity kept
the course wet & muggy for the first round of the Member-Member
Tournament. But the soft greens & squishy lies didn't stop the teams from scoring some low
rounds resulting in one of the tightest first rounds in recent
memory. The Member-Member Tournament will have Three
places for Low Gross, and Eight places for Low Net. Current standings are shown below. A Team may place in EITHER
the GROSS or NET Categories, but not both. The lowest 3
GROSS scores at the conclusion of next week will be placed in the GROSS category, and all others
will compete for Low NET category.
Ties for position next week will be
resolved as follows: Ties for First Place in either the
Low Gross or Low Net categories will result in a Sudden Death
Playoff starting at the first hole. All other ties for
position will be resolved by looking at the last 18 holes, last
9 holes, last 6 holes, last 3 holes, and finally the last hole.
If still tied, prize money will be split.

It was a gorgeous day for a round of golf and
wonderful way to celebrate our nation's birthday with bright
sunshine and a light breeze. Great scores were the order of the
day with all of this weeks winners shooting under Net Par.
The low scoring was led off with an amazing Net 61 by Larry
Musso and an excellent Net
64 by Mike Bromfield. As
always, some ties were resolved by looking at the back nine

Red vs. Blue
Tournament Results for June 26th
The weather was excellent and so was the golf for the Red Vs. Blue Tournament and the Second
Round of the Memorial Tournament. Sunshine and warm temps
made for some excellent golf including a one-over round of 74
for Abel Daponte. Nice Round!!!
We are happy to welcome Bob Healey
back into the fold after his quick recovery. We're glad he
finally decided to trade in his Afternoon Soaps and Remote
Control for a round with the guys. A solid round of 85 for Net
74 greeted him for his homecoming, scoring him 40 Founders Cup
points on his first day back. Way to go Bob!.
The Red Team jumped out to a
commanding early
lead, but the Blue Team rallied back in the middle groups to
pull close. Ultimately the Blue Team came up a bit short and the
Red Team squeaked out the win 27 to 24.

Atlantic City Trip on
6/6-6/7 Is A
Great Success !!!
Our Annual Golf & Gamble
Outing to Atlantic City turned out to be a great success once
again. The
greens were fast, just like the action at the craps table. We had a good turnout this year with 9 foursomes.
Atlantic City Country Club, built
110 years ago, was in good shape, with a healthy amount of
lateral water and marsh areas that came into play, and a couple of
blind shots into the greens.
Greens had aeration holes, but they were
flat and fast for the most part. Hard, tight fairways gave
us a lot of roll, but challenged us on our pitch shots.
Blue Heron Pines was in great
condition with
terrific fairways, perfect approaches and smooth, well-kept
greens. Some unique hole designs kept us on our
toes with well placed bunkers, enough water to keep it
interesting, and who can forget the Sahara Desert in the middle
of the 14th fairway. That was certainly memorable. (I know
some of us would rather forget it).
On behalf of Joe and Dan,
we'd like to say Thank You to all the guys who participated this
year, and we look forward to seeing all of you back for next
year's event. |

to much with just a bit of drizzle on one hole. Competition was very tight in some of the flights

the six-hole groups by looking at the
last 3 holes, and if still tied, the last 2 holes, then the last hole.

Stableford
Tournament Final Round Results for June 5th
Hot & Muggy conditions made
us sweat out more than a few putts today. A Tie for Seventh
Place will
split the prize money for seventh and eight place. Congratulations
to the top nine positions who placed in this year's tournament.
Team Gruber-Magliano scored 98 total
points for First Place in the Stableford Tournament. They hung
on to win when their 11 point lead from last week proved
insurmountable for the rest of the field. The Addiss-Towle team
gave them a run for their money, scoring the largest point total
of the day with 57 to launch them from 9th
into 2nd Place with 93 points.
Also notable were Two Natural Eagles
By Charlie Pierro and Abel Daponte during the final round.
Charlie scored his on the 8th hole, and Abel echoed the feat on
the 12th hole. Nice!
Congratulations to
Paul and Ken for winning the Stableford Tournament. As this year's winner, their names will be
added to the plaque of
Stableford Winners in the clubhouse.

We have posted
Directions for the Atlantic City Trip here. Remember
to leave plenty of time to arrive before your Tee Time.

course. Consult the Tee Times & Handicaps page for your correct
handicap.If you
wish to participate in any of the tournament pools you must contact Joe
Fontana with your entry fee before we tee off at 11:30am on
Sunday. Players who are
not members of the Pine Hills Men's Club must bring their
current GHIN card with them, or provide us with your GHIN number
prior to Saturday June 5th, so that we may look up your

Stableford
Tournament First Round Results for May 30th
The weather was beautiful for the first round of
the Stableford Tournament, and the boys were out there Hamming &
Egging like crazy with 5 teams surpassing last year's best of 39
points.
The Gruber-Magliano team thrashed
the competition with 56 points thanks to an all-time personal
best score of 72 (Net 62) by Paul and a Net Eagle & some birdies
contributed by Ken.
The First Round was played in a
2-Man Best Ball Stableford Format. In next Week's Final Round,
both player's Stableford Points will be counted towards the
totals. With both
players scores counting next week, the team that can minimize
their -2's will have a big advantage.

4 Man Best Ball
Tournament Results for May 22nd
Another excellent day for golf. A slight
breeze from time to time would add a bit of distance every now
and then, but it was a terrific day. The
greens were in good shape, and the rough is getting
a lot rougher.Team Gruber
and Team Pierro battled for first ending in a tie at 202.
The Last Nine Holes were also tied at 101 each. The last
six holes were finally used to break the tie, with Team Pierro
winning by one stroke. Congratulations to Charlie Pierro,
Tom Grimm, Joe Fontana & Rich Towle. Rich turned in an excellent
Net 68 to help his team grab the first position.

Memorial
Tournament Results for May 15th
Congratulations to the Winners of the First Round
of the Memorial Tournament. The Four Winners in Each
Flight will continue the
match-play elimination on June 26th.
Handicaps in effect at that time will determine any strokes
given in the next round.
Bill Fosdick gets honorable mention for the biggest comeback of
the day in his match. Bill struggled on the front and was
down 5 holes at the turn, but rallied with a terrific 37 on the
back nine. He took six of the last nine holes (and halved the
rest) to edge out his
opponent by one hole, winning the match on the 18th hole. Incredible comeback Bill. Well
Done!

Red vs. Blue
Tournament Results for May 15th
Blue Skies and Sunshine was the order of the day
for the Red vs Blue Tournament. A 15 mph breeze kept things
interesting, but all in all it was a great spring day for a
round of golf.
It was neck and neck throughout the day, but
the Blue Team finally pulled ahead when the last group posted
their scores.
The final tally was 31 points for the Blue Team and 29 for the Red Team. Almost everyone on the Blue Team contributed to the
win with 1/2 point or more as they racked up the points towards
victory. Pete
Torres, the solo
3-point winner on the Red Team could not overcome the solid
performance by the Blue Team with 4 three point winners.
The Winners for the Red-Blue
Tournament were:

3 Sixes
Tournament Results for May 8th
The weathermen blew it again calling for
thunderstorms that never materialized. While overcast in the
morning, the skies cleared up in the afternoon and let the sun
shine down on us for a great day of golf with some low scores.
Competition was very tight in some of the flights
with quite a few ties for position. Any ties were resolved by looking at the
last 3 holes in each group, and if still tied, the last 2 holes
(then last hole) of that
six-hole group were used. First and Second Places were awarded
in each Six-Hole Group in Each Flight.

The finest day of the year so far greeted us for
the 2 Man Best Ball competition. Mid 70's, bright sunshine
and a very light breeze made for an excellent day out on the
links. Obviously it agreed with the team of Rotundo & Miller as
they crushed the competition with a 61 in the AD Flight. Kobel &

Results for 4 Man
Stableford Tournament
The weather cooperated for the most part with a
brief drizzle on one or two holes early on. In spite of thick
clouds most of the day we did get a peek at some sunshine for

Tournament ended with a tight finish yielding a 3 point spread
between first and third places. Excellent rounds by Pete Torres
(88 for Net 68), and Charlie Pierro (78 for Net 70) helped
propel their teams to the top of the leader board.

Executive Committee
Announces The Founders Cup
As our answer to The Fed-Ex
Cup, the Executive Committee is proud to announce a new
season-long tournament called The Founders
Cup, which will begin next week on April 17th, and will run
through October 9th, 2010.
The Founders Cup is dedicated to remembering the men who founded
The Pine Hills Men's Club back in 1988, and is designed to be a
season-long tournament where points are awarded each week for
consistently good play relative to your own handicap.
- Prizes will be $400, $300,
$200, and $100 for the Top Four Places
- All members are entered
automatically with no registration fee required.
- Points will be awarded each
and every week in 3 flights in Stroke Play (Low Net) Format
(regardless of the format we are playing that week.)
- The tournament will run from
April 17th thru October 9th.
- Points are awarded for top 5
places in each flight (100, 60, 40, 30, 20)
- All non-winning participants
each week will receive 10 points
- As in all other tournaments,
players who are forced to take an X on a hole are
disqualified for that week, and will be awarded only 10
points for participation.
- Ties for top 5 positions are
decided in the normal fashion by best back 9 holes, then
last 6, last 3, last 1 hole. If still tied, points
will be split.
- Weekly points are added up
after play on October 9th, and the top four points leaders
will play off on October 16th, 2010. (Rain Date is Oct 23rd,
2010)
- In the unlikely event of a
tie for the final four positions, the higher position will
be awarded to the better points from October 9th. If
still tied, we will look back to previous weeks (Oct 2nd,
etc) until the tie is resolved.
- Accumulated points are then
discarded, and the final four players will playoff
head-to-head in Stroke Play (Low Net) for the four prizes.
- In the event of a tie for
positions in the Final Four Playoff, Sudden Death
Elimination will commence immediately on the 1st hole, with
the better net score receiving the higher position. Sudden
Death will continue until all ties for positions have been
resolved.
- Players in the Final Four
Playoff are ineligible to win in the normal tournament being
played on the day of the playoff.

Medal Play
Tournament Results for April 10th
The weather seemed to befuddle almost everybody
today with only ten of us shooting less than Net 80 (Ouch!), and
only one player shooting better than net par. While the bright,
sunny skies were nice, it was still a bit chilly and the windy
conditions wreaked havoc for most players throughout the day.
Kudos to Paul Pinto for being the
only one to shoot under par with a Net 67.

Two Man Best Ball
Tournament Results for April 3rd
Mother Nature graced us with a nice day for early
season golf with sunny skies and a light breeze. Engo & Towle
finished with a blistering 62 Net to take the CD Flight, while
Aiello & Grimm seized the AB Flight by 4 strokes with an
excellent Net 64. A Tie for Second Place in the AB Flight
was decided by the usual means with Sheppard & Graziano posting
the better back nine (32) over Gruber & Fontana (34).
The course continues to be in great
shape but we noticed some changes are coming our way soon.
Those tell-tale white lines appeared on the fairways this week
indicating where the infamous Pine Hills Rough will begin to
haunt us. We also noticed Jimmy & Frank slaving away on the 12th
Hole measuring up for a new fairway bunker down the left side.

Stableford
Tournament Results for March 27th
Cold temps throughout the day
wreaked havoc with our scores for the Stableford Tournament,
Singles in Flights. The greens continue to be fast & flat
causing some extra putts on the 5th hole due to a tough pin
placement on the slope. The
competition produced a tie for first and third in the C Flight
with Dom Aiello edging out Rich Miller for third place. As always, in non-major
tournaments, ties were
resolved by looking at the best back nine holes.

Another Sad Day For The
Men's Club
We are all saddened by
the sudden and tragic loss of Larry Springer on Friday Feb 26th.
As one of our founding members and Club Treasurer, Larry was a
big part of our club for the pas 21 years. His dry wit and
talent for storytelling will be sorely missed. Our hearts go out
to his family and friends as we remember Larry and mourn his
passing. We are all shocked and dismayed at the loss of
our dear friend and competitor.
The Men's Club will be installing a
memorial plaque at the 100 yard marker on the 11th hole to honor
Larry's contribution to making our club such a great success
over the past 21 years. We will always remember Larry as we play
through on the 11th hole. |
