2010 Membership Meeting
Set for Thursday, March 11th, 2010
Our annual organizational
meeting will take place on
Thursday, March 11, 2009 at 7:00pm in
the Catering Room of JC's Restaurant. Our first
official golf outing will take place on Saturday, March 20th,
2010. Further announcement will be made here on the website
early next year. Members will receive a reminder notification by
snail mail in February, and an email reminder several weeks
before the event. We look forward to seeing everyone next year! |

Annual Awards Dinner Dance
is A Great Success
Our Annual Awards Dinner
Dance was a great success! Members and Guests were treated to
the vocal stylings of Vinnie Aiello singing some of our old
favorites. Pete "The Crooner" Torres responded in kind
with a few tunes that got the crowd up and dancing as well. We
would like to thank everyone who attended for a great evening of
fun.On behalf of Joe, Larry and Dan we'd
like to thank all of our members who participated with the Men's
Club this year. We look forward to another great year for
2010! We encourage members to invite a friend to
join us next year! |

$10 Shootouts Continue Every Saturday
Even though our 2009
season has officially ended, we're not done yet!. We'd
like to encourage members to continue playing with us on
Saturdays in our $10 shootouts. As usual you can sign up
with Joe by Wednesday or post your name on the sheet in the
clubhouse.Our Saturday
shootouts continue until spring (weather permitting) and are
based on low net in flights with 1st and 2nd in each flight.
The number of flights depends on the number of players each
week. First group tees off at 10AM.
We will enjoy off-season rates at
the course and you may walk if you prefer. Members are
encouraged to bring Guests and Friends so we can entice them
into joining the club next year. Guests are generally not permitted
to enter the Shootout. This is necessary in order to protect the
field.
Results of the shootouts will not
be posted on the website. |

Spooky Results in Our
2 Man Scramble Tournament
The Ghosts & Goblins were
out in force for our Halloween Season Ender. Ghastly winds were
blowing fiercely and fast greens wreaked havoc all over the
course. Ronnie's Ghost even appeared in the rough between the
8th and 2nd holes, as Pete Torres found one of his signature
yellow balls with 'Ron" on it that once belonged to Ron
Pietramala. How's that for spooky?
In spite of high winds and ghostly
encounters, we had a very competitive tournament in the 2 man
scramble with six groups within one stroke of the lead.
Tiebreakers were required to finally decide 1st & 2nd and 3rd & 4th
places. Kudos go to Pat Aiello & Bill Buhmann for the
better back nine score of 32 to snatch the lead from Addiss &
Lish. The tie for 3rd & 4th was even closer with Smith &
Balsamo finally edging out Sileo & Sileo on the 18th hole with a
par for birdie to take the 3rd spot. Honorable mention (but no
money) also goes out to Graziano & Willis and Colon & Morelli
for also shooting a Net 66. Congratulations to all the winners!
We'll be gunning for you next year!

7 Club Tournament
Results for October 24th
Once again, the 7 club tournament turned out to
be a lot of fun, and it was great to continue this old Club
tradition. We got lucky with the weather again this week as a
break in the rain allowed us to get the tournament in without
getting rained on except for a couple very light, 2-minute
sprinkles on the front nine. On the other hand, the wind was
brutal and the greens were fast, which wreaked havoc on some
holes and kept all the scores above par.

7 Club Tournament in
Flights Announced for October 24th
Since there was no Rain-Out
for the Major Tournaments, the OPEN date for next week was to be
determined. The committee has decided to spice things up
again this year by continuing an Old Club Tradition
called the 7-Club Tournament.
The 7 Club Tournament is
played with a MAXIMUM of 7 Clubs in your bag (Choose any
7 clubs you want).
Your Putter Counts As One Club, but you are not required to
carry one. (If you can putt with something else, go
for it). All other clubs must
be left at home or in your car, a player can only carry a
maximum of 7 clubs. Players carrying more than 7 clubs will be
disqualified.
In spite of a rumor started many
years ago by Ron Pietramala, your ball retriever and
umbrella DO NOT count as a club. (Unless you try to use
them to hit the ball).
This Tournament will be played in
3 or 4 Flights depending on the number of members playing next
week. Players will receive their usual handicaps for this
tournament. |

3 Sixes
Stableford Tournament Results for Oct. 17th
Although the forecasts were not looking good a
few days ago, a break in the weather allowed us to get this
week's round in without getting wet. Speedy fast greens
along with pin positions located in some hilly spots confounded
us this week as we watched our putts sail past the hole.
All Ties were resolved in each of
the six-hole groups by looking at the
last 3 holes in that group. First and Second Places were awarded
in each Six-Hole Group in Each Flight.

Two Man Best Ball
Results for October 10th
Early clouds looked
ominous, but they finally broke revealing a bit of sunshine on
the back nine. The greens ran fast and furious, and
were in very good shape considering that they were aerated only
a couple weeks ago. The winners in each flight offered up
blistering back nines to emerge victorious. In the BC flight
Doherty & Goncalves shot an amazing 9 under par back nine of 27,
and Team Aiello scored an 8 under par 28 to edge out their
rivals in the AD flight.

Two Man Stableford
Tournament Rained Out
Heavy rain Friday night
continuing through Early Saturday Morning. The rain stopped by 9:30 but the number of player
cancellations caused us to drop the tournament this week.
The 16 players that showed up played in a shootout. The course
was in pretty good condition with only a couple of soggy spots
and we managed to stay dry all day.
Next week we will continue with our scheduled Two Man Best Ball
AD-BC Tournament. |

Sign Up for 2 Man Scramble Season Ender before October 24th
Our final outing of the
year happens on October 31st. Pick your partner for
the final event of the year and sign up with Joe Fontana before
October 24th. If you don't have a partner, see Joe and he
will pair you up with another player.
The 2 man scramble format is
handicapped based on a combination of handicaps, and usually
produces some low net scores. Defending Champs Joe Fontana
& Dave Kobel won the event last year with a net 64 due to a
stellar back nine score of 29 net (7 under par).
Winners of the 2 Man Scramble
will receive Free Dues for the 2010 Season. Additional prizes
will be awarded several runner up positions. |

Periods of light rain put
a slight damper on this week's AB <> CD 2 Man Best Ball competition.
Overnight showers and rain again in the morning created very
soggy conditions in the fairways and greens.

Four Man Stableford
Tournament Rained Out

Low Net
Results for August 22nd
While the Cup Finalists
were busy slugging it out for the title, the rest of us were
competing for Low Net in 3 Flights. Warm temps and very
muggy weather conditions seemed to have taken their toll on us
causing much higher than average scores. Of course it
could also have been because the white tees were way back all
day (near the end of the world)!
Despite the tougher conditions, 3
players scores great rounds in the Net 60's. Randy Buchanan with
Net 66, and Giuseppe Illiano & Lou Graziano with Net 68. Any ties were resolved by looking at the
back nine holes.

Winners of the
Club Championship & President's Cup
Congratulations to the
winners of the Club Championship and President's Cup.
This
years competition in the President's Cup yielded incredibly tight competition and
3 way tie for
4th position.
Lou Graziano shot a terrific round of Net 68 in tough conditions
to leap from 5th to 1st place winning by 3 strokes. Bob Morelli
was another big mover shooting Net 70 to jump from 8th to 4th.
Only 6 strokes separated the 2nd through 8th place finishers.
Jeff DiMarco shot a terrific
round of 75 to win the Club Championship by 9 strokes. In the
end, both Jeff DiMarco in the Club Championship and Lou Graziano
in the President's Cup successfully defended their titles from
last year.

 "Whipped
Cream on Dog-Spit"
Pat "Padraig" Hanratty
impressed us all this week with the ultimate shot on the 17th
hole. A Hole In One! According to those playing
with Patty, the shot looked perfect all the way to the Blue Pin
playing about 170 yards .... Perfect Height, Perfect Placement,
Perfect Distance. "It looked right on the money all the way."
Although no one could see it drop in
the hole, Pete Torres walked towards the top of the hill and
said "Patty, I don't see it on the green. It must have gone in".
Patty replied "Nah, it must be in the grass behind the the
green".
Even if it wasn't one of Patty's
better days, he won't soon forget it. When Patty finally got to
the green and discovered that the ball was in the hole, everyone
commented that it was the ultimate case of "Whipped Cream on Dog
S_it".
It turned out to be an expensive
day, but Patty had a big smile on his face as he celebrated on
the 19th hole.

Results for August 15th
We were graced with a
gorgeous day for golf with warm temperatures and almost no wind. The Low Net
in Flights produced terrific rounds by Pete Hance (Net 66), Lou
Graziano (Net 67) and three Net 68's by Bill Fosdick, Jim Sileo
& Pat Aiello. Nice job guys! Ties for
position were resolved in the usual way (Last 9 holes, and then
the last 6 holes)

Low Net in Flights Tournament, we contested the Second Round of
Qualifying for the Presidents Cup (Net) and Club Championship
(Gross). The 4 Low Gross scores, and 8 Low Net
Scores with ties after 36 holes will advance to the Finals next week. All
finalists will share in the prize fund and will not be eligible
for the other scheduled event that day. All 54 holes will be
totaled. Ties for First Place will result in Sudden Death
Playoff starting at the 1st hole. Congratulations to those
who made the cut and Good Luck in the Finals!

Tournament Results for August 1st
It was a beautiful day for the Red Vs. Blue Tournament and the
Final
Round of the Memorial Tournament. Bright sunshine, a light
breeze and excellent greens made for a very close tournament.
It was neck-and-neck all day between
the Red and Blue Teams with the lead shifting back and forth
several times before a winner emerged. In the end, the Blue Team
produced a slim victory 25-1/2 to 22-1/2 points.

Medal Play Tournament Announced for July 25th
The committee has
announced that next week's open tournament which was reserved as
a rain-out date will be Medal Play, Singles in 3 or 4 Flights.
The number of flights will depend on how many members sign up.
Our webmaster will be on vacation
next week, so results of next weeks Medal Play Tournament will
not be posted here on the website until Thursday, July 30th.

July 18th
Another Bright Sunny day with Hot Temps, and some
Hot Golfers made for an excellent Final Round of the
Member-Member Tournament.
Solid rounds by Healey & Balsamo
propelled them to a 3 shot victory with a 154 in the Gross
Division, while Chadha & Lafferty repeated their 1 shot victory
from last year with a 125 in the Net Division. Congratulations
to all the winners!
The lowest 3 GROSS scores placed in
the GROSS division, and all others competed for Low NET
division. Ties for positions in the Net division were
settled by looking at the low net score for the 18 holes on July
18th, then looking at the back nine holes.

Member-Member First Round Tournament Results for
July 11th
Another great weather day for the Men's
Club. Beautiful sunshine with a light breeze created some tight
competition. The greens are starting to firm up and get
faster but soft conditions over the past several weeks have left
them quite bumpy.The Member-Member Tournament will have Three
places for Low Gross, and Eight places for Low Net. The
current standings are shown below. A Team may place in EITHER
the GROSS or NET Categories, but not both. The lowest 3
GROSS scores will place in the GROSS category, and all others
will compete for Low NET category.
Ties for position will be
resolved as follows: Ties for First Place in either the
Low Gross or Low Net categories will result in a Sudden Death
Playoff starting at the first hole. All other ties for
position will be resolved by looking at the last 18 holes, last
9 holes, last 6 holes, last 3 holes, and finally the last hole.
If still tied, prize money will be split.

Red vs. Blue
Tournament Results for June 27th
Although our round was a wee bit slooooooooow
today, we finally did finish the Red Vs. Blue Tournament and the Second
Round of the Memorial Tournament. The weather cooperated
with sunshine and warm temps, but the course was very soft from
the record rainfall so far this June.
The Red Team jumped out to an early
lead, but the Blue Team rallied back in the last few groups to
defeat the Red Team 30-1/2 points to 23-1/2 points. Six 3
point victories by the Blue Team contributed 18 points to the
solid victory by the Blue Team.

Atlantic City Trip on
6/7-6/8 Is A
Great Success !!!
Our Annual Golf & Gamble
Outing to Atlantic City turned out to be a great success once
again. The
greens were smooth and fast, just like the action at the craps
table. We had a good turnout this year with 9 foursomes,
surpassing last year.
Atlantic City Country Club, built
110 years ago, was in good shape, with a healthy amount of
lateral water and marsh areas that came into play, a couple of
blind shots into the greens and turtles scurrying to and fro.
Greens had a few aeration holes here and there, but they were
flat and fast for the most part. Hard, tight fairways gave
us a lot of roll, but challenged us on our pitch shots.
Blue Heron Pines was absolutely
beautiful ! The course was in beautiful condition with
terrific fairways, perfect approaches and smooth, well-kept
greens. Some unique hole designs kept us on our
toes with well placed bunkers, enough water to keep it
interesting, and who can forget the Sahara Desert in the middle
of the 14th fairway. That was certainly memorable. (I know
some of us would rather forget it).
This year we expanded the closest
to the pin tournament to include 2 holes on each course.
On behalf of Joe and Dan,
we'd like to say Thank You to all the guys who participated this
year, and we look forward to seeing all of you back for next
year's event. |

3 Sixes
Tournament Results for June 13th
Early sunshine was overcome by clouds for most of
the day with a very light sprinkle on the last couple of groups. Competition was very tight in some of the flights
with a few tie-breakers for position. All Ties were resolved in each of
the six-hole groups by looking at the
last 3 holes, and if still tied, the last 2 holes, then the last hole.
If still tied, players split the prize money (as happened in the
B Flight, 3rd Six). First and Second Places were awarded in each
Six-Hole Group in Each Flight.
The front red pin position on the
3rd hole proved to be very challenging with only 3 players
hitting the green all day.

Stableford
Tournament Final Round Results for June 7th
It was a beautiful day with
bright sunshine and light winds. Ties for Third and Seventh will
split the prize money for those positions. Congratulations
to the top nine positions who placed in this year's tournament.
An outstanding Net 65 for Abel
skyrocketed the Daponte-Illiano team from 11th into First, and a
stellar Net 64 by Rich jumped the Addiss-Towle team from 8th
into Second.
Congratulations to
Abel & Giuseppe for whipping up a solid final round of 65 points
to leap from 11th place into First Place, producing a victory
by 3 points. As this year's winner's, their names will be
added to the plaque of
Stableford Winners in the clubhouse.

courses have different slope ratings (and are different than our
home course), players may have different handicaps for each
course. Consult the Tee Times & Handicaps page for your correct
handicap.If you
wish to participate in any of the tournament pools you must contact Joe
Fontana with your entry fee before we tee off at 12:00pm on
Sunday. Players who are
not members of the Pine Hills Men's Club must bring their
current GHIN card with them, or provide us with your GHIN number
prior to Saturday June 7th, so that we may look up your
handicaps. Players without a current handicap cannot participate
in the Low Net Tournament, but may participate in all other
tournaments. |

Stableford
Tournament First Round Results for May 30th
Finally we got an excellent
day for golf, with abundant sunshine and a light breeze!
The greens have recovered nicely, and the scores were tightly
contested with many ties for position. The First Round was played in a 2-Man Best Ball Stableford
Format. In next Week's Final Round, both player's Stableford
Points will be counted towards the totals.
The Fontana-Miller team edged out
a 3 point lead with 39 going into next week, but 11 other teams
with 31+ points will be nipping at their heals. With both
players scores counting next week, the team that can minimize
their -2's will have a big advantage next week.

Tournament Results for May 23rd
We were graced with a fine day for
golf, even though swirling winds
challenged us a bit
from time to time. The
greens were in good shape, and the rough is getting
a lot rougher. The 5th hole closest to the pin proved to be
difficult to get close to with a back right pin position.
"Team
Miller" cleaned our clocks with a superb score of 195, led by a
stellar Net 65 by Rich. According to the USGA, the odds of
shooting an 8 under Net 65 are 1 in 850. Outstanding
performance Rich!

Atlantic City Golf Outing
- Tournament Registration
In order to alleviate the hectic confusion of
collecting entry fees at the course on Sunday Morning, we will
be collecting entry fees in advance. All participants
should see Joe sometime before June 6th to register for the
tournaments. Entry Fees cover both days. This year's
tournaments will be as follows
- Low Net in Flights - $40 -
Low nets (First & Second) on Front Nine, Back Nine and Overall
- Closest to the Pin - $20 -
Two pins per day, First, Second & Third at each pin
- Skins - $20 - Lone Birdies
(or better) on any hole split the prizes
- Kickers - $20 - Roll of the
Die & Gross determines the winners who split the prize money

Red vs. Blue
Tournament Results for May 16
Overcast skies and a light breeze kept things
cool for the Red Vs. Blue Tournament and the First
Round of the Memorial Tournament, but that didn't stop the Blue
Team from getting Red Hot!
The Red Team jumped out to an early
4 point lead, but the Blue Team quickly rallied with Six 3-point
victories to crush the Red Team 36-1/2 points to 23-1/2 points.
Almost everyone on the Blue Team contributed to the win with 1/2
point or more as they racked up the points. The Two
3-point winners on the Red Team could not overcome the solid
performance by the Blue Team.

Tournament Results for May 9th
Weather was good and the greens will be perfect in another week
or two. Competition was very tight in some of the flights
with quite a few ties for position. Any ties were resolved by looking at the
last 3 holes in each group, and if still tied, the last 2 holes of that
six-hole group were used. First and Second Places were awarded
in each Six-Hole Group in Each Flight. Healey and Daponte Tied
for 2nd place in the A Flight, First Six.

Registration Begins for 2 Man Stableford Tournament (5/30 & 6/6)
Registration for our First
Major Tournament, the 2009 2
Man Stableford Match Play
Tournament will begin on May 9th, 2008.Days of Play: May
30th,
June 6th. You must be available on both days.
Requirements: The
tournament is open to all Active Members of Pine Hills Men's
Club with an established handicap as of May 30th. Choose
your own partner. Teams should signup with Joe as soon as
possible. If you don't have a partner we will pair you with
another member.
Entry Fee: $15.00 per
player, must be
paid by May 23rd, 2009.
Format: Teams compete over 2 consecutive weeks.
The first round is a Best-Ball Stableford Format where only the
best of the team's scores counts. During the second round,
both players scores are included. |

Players are Reminded
that ScoreCard Errors May
Result In Disqualification
As we begin to enter the time of year where we
begin playing the Major Tournaments,
the Rules Committee would like to remind all members of the
following USGA Rules regarding scorecards, as these rules must
be strictly applied in order to to insure a fair and equitable
competition.
Members are reminded to
double-check their
hole-by-hole scores before attesting to their scorecards and
posting their scores. Simply checking the total score is
not enough, you must check all 18 holes.
USGA RULE
6-6b - Signing and Returning Score Card
After completion of the round, the competitor should check his
score for each hole and settle any doubtful points with the
Committee. He must ensure that the marker or markers have signed
the score card, sign the score card himself and return it to the
Committee as soon as possible.
Penalty for Breach of
Rule 6-6b: Disqualification.
USGA RULE 6-6d - Wrong
Score for Hole
The competitor is responsible for the correctness of the score
recorded for each hole on his score card.
If he returns a score
for any hole lower than actually taken, he is disqualified.
If he returns a score for any hole higher than actually taken,
the score as returned stands. |

May 2nd
After starting out with a bit of light rain for the
2 Man Best Ball competition, the sun finally came out on the
back nine to brighten up the day.
Aerated greens made for some challenging putting, but that
didn't seem to hamper some teams from shooting a few good rounds.
A 3 way tie for Third Place in the AD Flight was resolved in the
usual manner.

a few challenging pin positions gave us some long return putts

Stableford Tournament
Beautiful sunshine filled the day for the 4 Man
Stableford ABCD Tournament. Rolled greens made made it
challenging to hold the green on fairway shots and left us some
quick downhill putts. An excellent 38 on the back nine from
Pierro, 6 net birdies from Balsamo & Lafferty and a big 6 point
net eagle from Carmody on the 17th hole helped the team squeak
by into first place for the win.

Mother Nature gave us a run for our money with
very heavy winds throughout the day. Threats of rain were
unfounded but gusting winds challenged us on every shot. Ties

Annual Men's Club
Golf Outing Announced for June 7th & 8th, 2009
Joe Fontana announced that our Annual Golf Outing
will be in Atlantic City, NJ on Sunday, June 7th & Monday June
8th. Our annual two day Golf & Gamble outing will begin
on Sunday June 7th with 18 holes at the
Atlantic City Country Club teeing off at 12:00 noon. Accommodations (2 per room) for Sunday night
will be at the
Tropicana Hotel & Casino on the boardwalk. We
will follow up on Monday June 8th with 18 holes at the
Blue Heron Pines Golf Club
starting at 10:00AM.
Cost for Golf is $230 per person, payable when you sign up.
Please sign up in foursomes (if possible) with
Joe Fontana as
soon as you can since space is limited and was completely filled
last year. If you can't find a foursome, let Joe know & we
will pair you up to complete a foursome.
Hotel Accommodations are $65.00 per
room (two per room) payable to the Hotel at Check-In.
The usual optional tournaments will
be available including Low Net, Closest to the Pin, Skins for
Birdies and Kickers. |

Tournament Results for March 28th
Rain in the morning finished
up by the time we teed off, making way for clear skies and
sunshine in the afternoon. The Stableford Tournament,
Singles in Flights ended up with some very close scores. The
competition produced a tie for 2nd position in the A Flight and
a tie for 3rd position in the C Flight. As always, in non-major
tournaments, ties were
resolved by looking at the best back nine holes.

Saturday Signup Reminder
Members are reminded to
signup for Saturday as soon as possible to allow the Executive
Committee adequate time to prepare for each weeks event. This is
necessary to insure that groups are equitably distributed,
matches are as fair as possible, and to permit adequate time to
print scorecards and associated paperwork.
As always, you can use the signup
sheets posted on the bulletin board in the clubhouse, or contact
Joe before 7pm Wed. evening. Requests to play after 7pm on
Wednesday can only be honored on a space available basis. |

Red vs. Blue
Tournament Results for March 21st
It was a beautiful day for our season opener with
the traditional Red Vs. Blue Tournament. It began a bit chilly
with a brief frost delay, but warmed up quickly with bright
sunshine throughout the day.
The Red Team avenged their
previous loss from last August to produce a solid 25 to 20 point
victory over the Blue Team.
The Red Team jumped out to an early
lead, and extended their lead thanks to 3-Point Victories by 5
of the Red Team members.

Announces First Meeting
It may be snowing
outside, but the start of the 2009 Golf Season is just around
the corner, so get the clubs out of the garage and start
polishing up those irons!
We're looking forward to another
terrific season, and we would like to welcome back our renewing
members as well as new members who will be joining us this year.
We are very excited to announce
that the First Meeting of the 2009 Men's Club will be held on
Thursday March 12, 2009 at 7:00pm in
the Catering Room of JC's Restaurant in the main
clubhouse. Free Hot & Cold Buffet and Cash Bar.
Dues for the 2009 season will
remain as they have been since 2003
